Special Entertainment is developing a remake of the little-known 1983 film The Demons of Ludlow, which was directed by legendary B-horror auteur Bill Rebane (often referred to as “the poor man’s Ed Wood”). Rebane is responsible for such films as Monster A Go-Go and Giant Spider Invasion, which were both featured on the movie-mocking television show Mystery Science Theater 3000. According to The Mystery Science Theater 3000 Amazing Colossal Episode Guide, the team felt that Rebane’s first film, Monster A Go-Go, was the worst movie they had ever seen.
The plot of The Demons of Ludlow revolves around a haunted piano and angry pilgrim ghosts. Here’s what critics had to say about the original film:
“I’ve actually seen The Demons of Ludlow…”
— Joel Hodgson, creator and star of Mystery Science Theater 3000
“A descent into mediocrity so deep that you’ll have to scream to get out.”
— Mark Borchardt, star of American Movie
“Cinematic ineptitude.”
— Horror Movie A Day
“If a viewer doesn’t mind bad acting, bad direction, bad cinematography, and a “story” that seems to have been made up as it was filmed … you very likely still won’t like this turd.”
